VYNIL
MUSICAL
SCULPTURE
«Re-Insertion» Inspired on Brian Weiss’ book «Many lives, many Masters», this project uses «designer toys» as a medium to tell a story about re-incarnation.
Buddy, a robot-like creature represents the human body as a vehicle for the Sperrit (the spirit) to evolve and learn through the material, metallic plain.
Sperrit, a floppy disk-like creature with wings, inserts in a type of slot through the back of the little robot, and goes on living its life until Buddy decays. That is the moment when Sperrit ejects from Buddy and re-inserts into a new different robot, with new experiences to live, repeating this cycle until the Sperrit becomes a Master Sperri.t
The Vynil Musical Sculpture (on the right) is a twenty inch tall toy that has one of two stereo speakers inserted in the back of its head, connecting through a wire to another toy (The Master Sperrit) that has the second stereo speaker.
In the back of the Sculpture (where Sperrits re-insert), a USB-Mp3 Player connects to load up music an play.
THE TOY’S
PACKAGE
POSTER
The Vynil Musical Scupture’s package,
is decorated inside with information graphics
and charts that explains the story and the
functioning of the toys:
The World they live in, the City, all parts
and sensors of the robot (Buddy), all different
types, genders and chasts of Buddies,
The Sperrit,
The Master Sperrit, etc...
This video (on the left) is the final presentation of this project in my Senior Thesis Show at Parsons School of Design, NYC. This music (by Elektrocell) was used as background music to ilustrate the functionality of the musical sculpture.
